The Surrey Robocop
Regular readers will have already heard of The Peckham Terminator – the shape-shifting-fould-mouthed-bus-passenger from south east London. Well it seems another Hollywood action hero has been discovered south of the river, this time in the form of ‘The Future Of Law Enforcement’.
PC Dan Pascoe parks up his police car to form a roadblock on a slip road off the M25 near Chertsey. No sooner has he got out of his car than he and his car are hit by a stolen BMW.
Plucky Pascoe is seen to get up, dust himself off and chase after the BMW and errant driver. When the BMW crashes, Pascoe leaps after the fleeing offender dealing him some ‘off-camera’ street justice.
Surrey Police said: “PC Pascoe was able to deploy his taser on the driver before collapsing and other officers at the scene then arrested him on suspicion of vehicle theft and other driving offences.”
“The 29 year old man pleaded guilty to all charges during an initial hearing at North Surrey Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 5 July and was sentenced to 23 months in prison at Guildford Crown Court on Friday, 29 July.”
The video of the incident is set to be a viral sensation, with fans dubbing PC Pascoe – The Surrey Robocop.

Student Protests in the 1960s/70s

Today hundreds of thousands of British students will be taking to the streets in London and beyond, occupying college buildings and dodging police kettles.
Their common cause? Fury at today’s House of Commons vote which is set to see dozens of Liberal Democrat MPs openly betray their election pledge on student fees.
Student revolt is nothing new of course. This video documents campaigning Californian students in the 60s and 70s. You get a nice rock/hippy soundtrack to boot.

Make It Stop

Okay, we know this site is called BigHappyVideo and that we usually focus on funny videos that we hope we’ll help go viral.
Once in a while though it’s nice to throw in a video that we want to go viral for more serious reasons. For example, last year during the protests against the Iranian election result, we posted dozens of videos captured by the demonstrators.
This video from the Met Police is part of a campaign to encourage members of the public to report domestic violence. So if you retweet this on Twitter or share on Facebook you’ll be helping to spread this very important message.
So here’s a BigHappy thanks to all those who help make this video go viral.
Woman Gets Violent over McNuggets
No sound
Here we see Melodi Dushane, 25, get a little hot under the collar (@1.20) when staff at this McDonalds drive thru in Toledo, Ohio refuse to serve her Chicken McNuggets. It’s a common frustration, during breakfast serving times all the old favourites aren’t allowed.
Not everyone would take it to this extreme though. We particularly like the point half way through (@1.57) when Dushane stands back and does a Vicky Pollard impression.
Quite a blonde moment.
Dushane says she was drunk at the time. She was sentenced to sixty days in jail in July 2010 and ordered to pay compensation to McDonalds for the smashed window.
Credit too goes out to the unflappability of the McDonalds crew who carry on serving to the chap in the car behind our blonde assailant (@2.22).

Police Officers Sledging

You may have already caught these images of on-duty Oxfordshire police officers tobogganing in the snow on their riot shields, anyways they’re an important addition to to the Big Happy Video Law and Order archive.
Their boss, Area Commander Supt Andrew Murray, reacted with an appropriate lack of understanding and seasonal good spirit: “I have spoken to the officers concerned and reminded them in no uncertain terms that tobogganing on duty, on police equipment and at taxpayers’ expense is a very bad idea should they wish to progress under my command”.
We say fair play to the cops, after all they were only seeking to determine whether sledging could be a zero-emission alternative to the panda car.

Trafalgar Square Riot (1913)
Suffragettes stick it to the man in this film footage of a riot in Whitehall following a march in Trafalgar Square in 1913. Police escort Suffragette leader Sylvia Pankhurst from the scene (at 50 secs+).
The film forms part of the BFI’s National Archive and is the sixth in our recent selection from the historic film vaults.

Silvio Berlusconi Punched in Face

Silvio Berlusconi was punched in the face in Milan, Italy last night (Sunday 13 December 2009). His assailant, Massimo Tartaglia, 42, was wielding a statue of Milan’s famous Cathedral as he struck the controversial Italian Prime Minister square in the face breaking his nose and teeth in the process. Berlusconi is now in hospital and is expected to remain there until Tuesday say doctors.
Berlusconi is no stranger to readers of BigHappyVideo. The infamous leader’s (s)exploits have proved to be some of the most popular posts of the year. From his Love Island Retreat to his Red Carpet Insult to Angela Merkel the Italian PM has never been far from our minds. To cap it all off we’ve had the Silvio Berlusconi Humps a Traffic Warden spoof become one of the most viewed videos on the site.

Yobs attacked what they thought were transvestites and clobbered by CAGE FIGHTERS in fancy dress

CCTV footage from Swansea, Wales showing drunken youths attacking what they think are a group of transvestites. Turns out they’re Cage Fighters in fancy dress.

Two thugs who attacked what they thought were a pair of transvestites picked on the wrong men – when their intended victims turned out to be cage fighters on a night out in fancy dress.
Dean Gardener, 19, and Jason Fender, 22, singled out the two men walking along a street in wigs, short skirts and high heels. Bare-chested Gardener was caught on CCTV confronting one of the men in a pink wig, black skirt and boob tube – then seen swinging a punch, a court heard.
But the other cage fighter, wearing a sparkling black dress and matching long wig, sprang to his friend’s help, delivering two lightning-quick punches to the two stunned yobs.
The cage fighters were then seen teetering away in their high heels, stopping only to pick up a clutch bag they dropped during the melee. Gardener and Fender were left dazed and seen staggering to their feet after their failed attack.
CCTV cameras followed the pair as they weaved along The Kingsway in Swansea, South Wales, before being arrested by police.
Mark Davies, defending, said: ‘You know it cannot have been a good night when you get into a fight with two cross-dressing men.
‘Unfortunately they were extremely drunk.
‘They had been out drinking jugs of cocktails and Fender had drunk at least 10 pints of cider.’
Police later discovered the two drag queens were cage fighters on a fancy dress stag night out with other friends.
Both Gardener and Fender, from Bonymaen, Swansea, pleaded guilty to using abusive words and behaviour. CCTV footage of the attacks was shown at Swansea Magistrates’ Court. It shows them fighting with several men before the approach the two cage fighters.
The pair were sentenced to a four-month community order, were electronically tagged and placed under a curfew between 7pm to 7am.

Protests in Iran – 18 September 2009
We’ve not seen much from Iran for the past month or so. Today (18 September 2009) though we’ve got these pictures in from a street demonstration in the Iranian capital, Tehran. Reports indicate Government forces have once again clashed with the protesters who are opposing the recent Iran Election results.
